Mr. Hossein Khezri
Defend International (DI) has been informed of the imminent execution of Mr. Hossein Khezri, a political activist who was condemned to death after having been accused of being a "mohareb." He will probably be hanged on April 14. 2010.
DI has sent urgent appeals to the Iranian authorities to halt this scheduled execution. In addition, appeals have been sent to the Council of Europe and the Commissioner for Human Rights to intervene.

Defend International condemns the killing of three Kurdish
youth
by Syrian security forces in the city of Ar-raqqah during the 2010 celebrations of Newroz.
The
Syrian
government must stop the cycle of violence perpetrated by members of the
security forces who are supposed to be protecting ALL civilians.
The arbitrary detention of DI member Mr. Mustafa
Ismail in Syria has caused great concern among our members worldwide.
DI is promoting a joint action
against the authorities' oppression on human rights supporters and calls on the
authorities for Mr. Ismail's immediate and unconditional release.

DI: No To Death Penalty
The use of the death penalty has increased at an alarming rate in Iran over the past several months. DI has called on the Iranian authorities to stop the execution of 22 Kurdish political activists on death row.
Unfortunately, five prisoners were executed on May 9, 2010.
DI affirms the necessity for an immediate intervention by the
United Nations and the international community in order to halt these scheduled
executions.

Prisoners on Hunger Strike
Defend International (DI) is
alarmed by reports that several Kurdish political prisoners have started a
hunger strike to protest prison conditions, unfair trial practices and racial
discrimination.
DI has contacted the International Committee of the
Red Cross, High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretary-General of the
Council of the European Union and the Secretary-General of the United Nations,
seeking their urgent intervention in this matter.

NO To Death Penalty
After the execution of the political activist Ehsan Fatahiyan on
November 11, 2009, 12 political activists are facing the same fate. Almost all
of them have been accused of being a mohareb ("enemy of God")
and/or "endangering state security" and sentenced to death after unfair trials.
DI affirms the necessity for an immediate intervention by the
United Nations and the international community in order to halt these scheduled
executions.

NO To Death Penalty
Defend International urges Iran to stop the
execution of the political activist Mr.
Shirkoh Moarefi and 11 others, and encourages the Iranian authorities to review
death penalty in light of International Human Rights Law.
DI call on Iran to take serious steps to impose an immediate moratorium
on executions and to provide a timetable for abolishing the capital punishment.
